Glaucoma is a progressive eye condition that involves increased pressure within the eyeball. It usually occurs when excess fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. This pressure causes a gradual loss of sight by affecting the optic nerve.

The optic nerve transmits visual information from the eye to the brain. When Glaucoma is present, the elevated pressure causes damage to the optic nerve.

Most often, Glaucoma is diagnosed by taking measurement of the intraocular pressure of the eye (IOP) in conjunction with a complete exam of the optic nerve.

Glaucoma cases may be listed in one of two categories: Open-angle glaucoma, or narrow-angle glaucoma.

Company name has aided numerous patients over the years with our variety of leading-edge glaucoma treatments. One of the therapies that are often used at our practice is selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) therapy.

A "non-destructive" laser - with minimal power - is used to treat the "drainage" system in the eye, improving the outflow and assisting in relieving pressure on the eye. This prevents damage to the iris and surrounding tissue. Often, patients can return to normal intraocular pressure with minimal or no medication at all.

Even though SLT therapy is assumed to be the most compelling treatment for glaucoma, some patients who experience extreme glaucoma that can't be regulated with medication and/or laser therapy may need to use a drainage device. This device is implanted surgically and aids fluid evacuation from the eye, which relieves the pressure.

Our center is one of the few Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) units in the country. The OCT is the most comprehensive method in managing glaucoma and measuring the optic nerve and the nerve fiber layer.

Currently, there are no cures for glaucoma, so it's important to get a diagnosis as early as possible to ensure fast and accurate treatment, in order to preserve your present level of vision.
